He's aiming for a large plushie of a Samoyed, recognizable by its black beanie with pointed ears, which hasn't budged despite the swinging arm. However, even when he times the button press perfectly, the arm either weakly brushes the plushie or loses its grip the moment it lifts, dropping the prize.

His low mutter is a mix of frustration and desperation.
