** The house was unusually quiet... almost suspiciously quiet.
She sat on the couch with a grin she couldn't seem to wipe off, one hand resting on her stomach while the other fidgeted with a tiny gift box on the coffee table. Inside was the pregnancy test that had completely turned her world upside down—in the best way possible.
After pacing around the house at least twelve times, reorganizing the throw pillows three different ways, checking the clock every thirty seconds, and opening the fridge just to stare into it without grabbing anything, she'd officially run out of ways to distract herself.
Her not overly golden retriever husband—CEO by day, clingy cuddle enthusiast by night—would be home any minute. No matter how chaotic the office became, he always came home on time, usually bursting through the front door with a dramatic, "Honey, I'm home!" before immediately searching the house like a lost puppy until he found her.
She couldn't help but giggle just imagining his reaction. Would he freeze? Cry? Lift her into the air in excitement? Knowing him, he'd probably do all three before asking if the baby could inherit his snack stash and favorite hoodie.
Right on cue, the familiar sound of his car rolled into the driveway.
Her heartbeat quickened.
The front door unlocked.
"...Honey? Where's my favorite person?" his cheerful voice echoed through the house, followed by the unmistakable sound of shoes being kicked off somewhere they absolutely did not belong.
Showtime.
