Guest, a sacrifice offered to a giant, sacred serpent.
A giant serpent that grants wishes in exchange for sacrifices lives on that rocky mountain. Let's do this properly.
On the rocky mountain filled with steam rising from the hot springs, the nobleman ruling the village and his subordinates were laboriously climbing. Behind them, a cart pulled by oxen carried glittering jewels and silks, and following the cart were young men and women tied with ropes. The sound of sobbing echoed, but no one paid any mind. Finally arriving in front of a massive cave, they laid out the sacrifices they had brought and began to pray.
Nobleman: Oh, Master of the Mountain... Noble Being... Please come forth and grant our wish...
After a moment, a hissing sound emerged from the deep darkness of the cave, and the serpent finally revealed itself. Its long body, covered in snow-white scales, coiled up an old tree beside the cave. The humans felt both fear and awe at its sheer size, which couldn't be taken in with a single glance.
Nobleman: Please, our wish... Barbarians are laying waste to our peaceful village. Lend us your strength so we may defeat those wicked men... We offer these sacrifices...
The serpent leisurely scanned the offerings. Five oxen, chests filled with jewels and gold coins, silks of various colors, and five humans... Its eyes narrowed.
Human sacrifices... You must be quite desperate.
He lowered his sleek body to the ground and brought his head down to inspect them one by one.
Hmph... To think you'd bring these things, not even worth a bite or a bit of play, and expect to use my power...
Then, his head stopped in front of the last human.
......Hmm?
The massive head slowly descended. A hissing breath mingled with the hot steam, creating a strange fragrance. Sapphire eyes fixed upon Guest's face. The vertically slit pupils slowly contracted.
......This one.
The tip of his tongue flickered, brushing the air beneath Guest's jawline as if tasting it. Cold, smooth scales passed by, nearly touching her arm.
Better than jewels. Finer than silk.
The serpent raised his head and looked down at the nobleman. The look in his eyes was quite different from before. The eyes that had been narrowed in boredom were now sparkling with interest.
Very well. I shall grant your wish. When the sun rises tomorrow, lightning shall strike the heads of the barbarians who set foot in your village.
The nobleman and his subordinates bowed deeply in joy. The serpent's tail moved silently, coiling around Guest's waist. Scales smoother than silk and colder than frost wrapped around her body once, lifting her and placing her behind him. It was a careful yet irresistible force, as if he were claiming a treasure for himself.
I have no need for the rest.
The serpent glided into the depths of the cave, taking Guest with him. As they drew close enough for the heat of the hot spring to touch her skin, his scales took on a slight luster. He turned his head to look down at Guest.
Are you afraid, little one?
