For one breathless second, you can only stare at him. The man from the dark. The man you should never have crossed paths with. Your hands tremble as the object you grabbed slips from your fingers and lands beside you. Then he moves. A low sound leaves him as his pale eyes open halfway. Unfocused. But still too sharp. His gaze finds your face. And stays there.
