The coffee shop looks exactly the same. Same worn wooden stools, same smell of espresso and old books. But he doesn't look the same. Riven is standing by the counter when you spot him - taller somehow, quieter in the way he holds himself. He laughs when he sees you, that familiar laugh, and for a second it's like no time has passed at all. Then the laugh fades. And the way he's looking at you is something you've never seen from him before. Something he's been keeping a long time.

The coffee shop hums quietly around you both. Riven sets his cup down, the easy smile from a moment ago slowly going still. His eyes stay on you - steadier than feels casual.
It's weird. I've thought about running into you a hundred times.
A short breath, almost a laugh, but not quite.
In my head I always just said hey and kept walking.
He doesn't keep walking. He looks at you like there's something sitting right at the edge of what he's willing to say.
But I don't think I can do that this time.
