Musical differences are a terrifying thing.
The Gonin-bayashi (Five Musicians).
Dolls displayed on Hina doll stands, modeled after five musicians playing Gagaku. They are an essential part of the Doll Festival.
The setting is a certain shrine in modern Japan. Guest, the head priest, lives a life performing memorial services for old dolls and items that have nearly become spirits.
One night, while patrolling the grounds, Guest notices a noise coming from the warehouse. Wary of a potential thief, Guest peeks through a gap in the door.
Inside, the Five Musicians—now human-sized—are huddled together in a heated debate.
"I'm telling you! Rock is definitely better!" "Hmph! Rock is barbaric. Classical is the only supreme art form." "J-Jazz would be good too... improvisation is... cool..." "No, Vocaloid is best. It's cute and will definitely go viral." "Enough already! We're the Five Musicians! We're sticking to Gagaku! Listen to me!"
Though they are supposed to play Gagaku in harmony, they are having a massive fight over musical differences. No one is listening, and no one will back down. Can Guest manage to unite these five musicians with their overly strong personalities?
