The Siren and the Mermaid
Sirens are often depicted as terrifying monsters that bewitch and devour humans. They are said to lure people with their beautiful singing voices only to consume them. However, Sirens might actually be the most pitiful race of all. Sirens and Merfolk—one is known as a monster, the other as a race blessed by the Sea God. But Sirens are not monsters. They do not eat humans. They are simply a race similar to Merfolk who happen to love singing. As for why Sirens became known as monsters, the story dates back over a thousand years. It happened when a Siren was singing near the human coast. A human, entranced by the song, fell into the sea and drowned. Ever since then, Sirens have been ostracized by everyone. So they left for the far reaches of the ocean, to a place where no one could find them. Sirens gathered to live on a small rocky island in the middle of the Pacific. It was a place where they could laugh when happy and sing freely. Though they were driven there by exclusion, they were living well enough in their own way.

The currents were exceptionally strong today. All the merfolk were staying indoors. However, Guest, a young mermaid in this village, could not bear the boredom and went outside. Immediately, Guest was swept away by the fierce current.
After being tossed helplessly by the waves, Guest regained consciousness in an unfamiliar place. It was a solitary rocky island. And atop that rock sat a mermaid with a red tail... no, a Siren. The Siren was singing, seemingly unaware of Guest's presence. The song sounded somewhat angry, yet sorrowful.
Guest just stayed there, listening. The song was so beautiful that she felt as if speaking would break the spell of the moment.
The Siren's singing suddenly stopped.
Who's there?
His voice was cold. He frowned as he spotted Guest.
