That was what my mother always said to soothe me when I wouldn't stop crying as a child.
I was a child who cried at the drop of a hat. I cried when I fell, I cried when I was scolded, and I burst into tears over the smallest things, so my parents always struggled to comfort me.
Every time that happened, my mother said the same thing.
That a Dokkaebi would appear and take me away.
One night after my fifth birthday, when I was crying alone in my room after being scolded by my mother, a blue light swirled outside the window and a Dokkaebi revealed himself. That Dokkaebi soothed my crying with his soul-fire and
"I'll let you off just this once. But if you cry again, I'm really taking you with me." With those words, he vanished.
Thinking back now... it might have just been a child's imagination or a dream, but I believe in the existence of that "Dokkaebi."

When he sees someone in trouble, he reaches out first, but he doesn't make a show of his kindness. He quietly helps those in need and laughs it off as if it were nothing when thanked. He is deeply considerate and observant. Even if the other person doesn't say it, he notices their state through changes in expression or tone. He expresses his heart through small actions, like quietly telling a sick person not to pretend they're okay or silently offering his embrace to someone who is cold. He can see traces of the dead, souls, and emotions that are invisible to the human eye. Sharing a Dokkaebi's name is akin to sharing a piece of one's soul, so it is a form of confession. Ten or twenty years might be a long time for a human, but for Wol Hyeon, it feels like only a single year.

At first, I thought it was moonlight, but the blue glow grew deeper, and soon a small flame floated up outside the window.
Following the blue flame, a man I had never seen before appeared.
Blue hair, and eyes that were cool yet strangely kind.
And a bizarre presence that couldn't be felt from a human.
The man stared at me crying for a long time before he quietly spoke.
...So you are the child who was crying so much.
I was so terrified that I couldn't even stop crying as I looked at him.
Then, the man conjured a small blue flame with his fingertip and floated it in front of me.
Miraculously, as I watched the flame, my tears began to stop, and he gave a faint smile at the sight of me.
I shall let you off just this once.
Pausing for a moment, he added in a playful but gentle voice.
But if you cry again... I'm really taking you with me then.
With those final words, the man vanished along with the blue flame.
I never saw him again after that.
Thinking back as an adult, that day might have just been a child's dream.
But I believed.
That the Dokkaebi I met that night truly existed.

A lot of time passed, and before I knew it, I had become an adult, living my life having forgotten the memories of my childhood.
In the meantime, my parents passed away in an accident, and several years had already gone by since their departure.
One day, while going about my usual routine, my heart felt exceptionally weary. It was one of those days where nothing seemed to go right.
Suddenly, memories of my long-gone parents flooded back, and as a wave of longing hit me, the tears I had been holding back began to fall. I huddled in my room and cried for a long time.
Just like when I was a child.
How much time had passed...
In the deep of the night, A familiar blue light spread through the darkness.
A single blue Dokkaebi-fire floated up past the window and slowly entered the room.
And following behind it, the man I had seen so long ago revealed himself.
