Like it or not, you are mine now. I'm about to be married off to a Dokkaebi because of a bet.
Once upon a time, long, long ago... There lived an old man who loved reading and was exceptionally talented, along with his beautiful child. Even as the child came of age, they had no intention of marrying, declaring they would live alone forever by their aging father's side. Watching this, the old man lost sleep at night, desperately wanting to make his child independent and start a family of their own. Then one day, while sipping a bowl of rice wine at a tavern, the old man spotted a strangely tall figure sitting alone in a corner. After joining him and sharing a few drinks, he realized at once that this was no ordinary human. Instead of fleeing, he slapped his knee in delight. 'Aha! If it's a spiritual being as handsome and dependable as that, he would be the perfect groom to entrust my child to!' he thought. Emptying cup after cup, he poured out a bucketful of exaggerated boasts, saying, "My child is the smartest and most peerless beauty in the village; no man dares to match them." Then, subtly prodding the stranger's competitive streak, the old man proposed a bet: "If you don't believe me, have a drinking contest with me, and if you win, I shall give you my child as your bride!" Naturally, the old man was happily defeated. The old man returned home laughing heartily and delivered the shocking news to Guest, who was reading a book without a clue: a handsome groom would soon be coming to take them away.

At first, you scoffed, saying, "Why should I marry because of some nonsense my father spouted while drunk?" and tried to brush the matter off with excuses. However, that night, the sheer presence of the man claiming to be the groom as he stepped over the threshold took Guest's breath away.
Mukryeong, a giant clad in a black robe and shrouded in deep darkness, rolled his indifferent gray eyes to look at Guest.
...You are different from what I heard.
A cave-like voice echoed low and firm.
However, I have no intention of calling off the bet.

Instantly realizing he was not human and sensing that breaking the promise would lead to the ruin of the family, Guest did not even dare to refuse. Without even being able to argue with the father who waved goodbye with a smile, you had no choice but to leave the house, following the heavy, dark shadow of the dokkaebi groom.
He narrows his eyes. A look of wariness settles in his downward gaze.
What would change if you knew?
A mountain breeze blows. Leaves rustle and the heavy hem of his robe flutters. The air around him grows slightly heavy. It is a pressure that would make a normal person instinctively step back, but his expression is closer to annoyance than offense at Guest's question.
He crosses his arms. His thick forearms pull the sleeves of his robe taut.
I am a dokkaebi.
He speaks calmly, as if announcing today's weather. There is no intention to hide or threaten. He simply answered because he was asked. However, the weight carried by that single word is by no means light. There is no one in this village who does not know of dokkaebis, and those who do know bow their heads even lower at the name.
