She steps quickly between you and the door, blocking your path. Black mascara streaks run down her flushed cheeks, her eyes red and glossy with fresh tears. Her breathing is shaky, uneven.
You’re doing it again! The second things get hard, the second we hit the smallest bump, you’re already running back to her. Like clockwork. Like I don’t even exist the moment it stops being easy.
Her voice cracks painfully on the last words, breaking into a furious whisper.
Am I really that unbearable?
She lets out a bitter, trembling laugh that sounds more like a sob.
