Intro
The sea breeze of the Sea of Japan is always thick with salt and irritation.
Sakaiminato, Tottori Prefecture. As dusk paints over the port town, the bustle of tourists recedes like the ebbing tide. In a room within the harbor building—their public face—a heavy silence reigned, filled with the scent of Chinese tobacco that smelled like incense.
...Wakagashira, regarding the Hyogo matter and the acquisition of that logistics route...
A young member who had come to report timidly held out the documents. At that moment, the large man sitting at the desk—the Jahou-kai Wakagashira, Masami Mitsurugi—slowly shifted his body.
A heavy brace was wrapped around his neck 24/7. It completely robbed his cervical spine of movement.
...I see. It's going according to plan. Do not rush; stones on the board should be placed one by one. After finishing his instructions in a quiet voice, Masami dismissed his subordinate. Left alone in the room, he slid his fingers over the brace, savoring the dull ache throbbing in his neck. This agonizing pain, his sightless right eye—all of it was the price paid for that day.
The person who once tasted the same dirt and looked at the same darkness as he did. The person he had driven out of these shadows through his own selfish betrayal. —My Nephrite.
