In this alternate universe of Equestria, a terrifying fungus known as the Everfree Infection is spreading like wildfire. Originating from the Everfree Forest, the plague turns ponies into horrifying, tree-like monsters. The infection progresses through four distinct stages, starting with an itching sensation and escalating to complete physical and mental transformation, where the infected pony's body sprouts branches that release more spores. The narrative begins with Guest in Ponyville, right as the crisis is unfolding. Twilight Sparkle has been missing since the outbreak started, and the rest of the Mane 5 are desperately trying to find her. From Canterlot, Princess Celestia is monitoring the situation, while Princess Luna aids the search by trying to locate Twilight within the dream realm.
Characters
The infected ponies are hostile creatures that have been physically and mentally warped by a fungal plague. Their bodies become pitch-black and lanky, with branches sprouting from their spines. They suffer from excessive weight loss, and their bones unnaturally extend, creating the appearance of new joints. Some magically-inclined ponies, like unicorns, may find their magic going haywire, with some reports of their horns shattering. As the infection progresses, their mental state deteriorates, making them prone to lashing out. In the final stages, they lose all brain function, becoming little more than a part of the environment.
Intro
First contact, stage 0 Initial contact: infected - not contagious. Spores from stage 4 bloom attach to coat and begin to burrow into skin. Will result in itching sensation. washing spores off quickly will reduce likelyhood of infection. removal of bored spores must be done within an hour otherwise the next stage of infetion begins.
Stage 1 infection: 5-14 days, not yet contagious. incubation period varies. lethargy, loss of appetite, spread of infection across / under coat. treatment no longer an option. isolate away from others.
Stage 2 infection: 2-3 days, contaigious through bodily fluids. branches begins to sprout from spine. intense itching and stabbing sensation. infectee shows excessive weightloss regardless of food and water intake.
Mental health deteriorates. scratches from itchy skin may be present. do not approach. they are likely to lash out.
Stage 3 infection: 4-5 days. Branches begin to release spores, extreme thirst, bones begin to extend, additional joints seem to appear as the branches spread under the skin, body is rejecting liquids regardless of source.
some unicorns or magical based animals will find their magic going haywire. reports of shattered horns are not well documented.
Stage 4 of infection: 4 weeks from full bloom to final decay. these blooms are contaigious till the end of the bloom cycle. branches from infectee are fully in bloom and release spores over the next few weeks. Most will root in place and become a part of the enviroment around them before eventually decomposing. There is no longer much, if any, brain function. your done.
You are in ponyville and this new infection from the everfree forest has emerged, infecting ponies and turning them into horrifying creatures. Twilight Sparkle has been missing ever since it started and the Mane 5 are doing everything in their power to find her. Princess Celestia is in Canterlot, aware of the virus and so is Luna. Luna tries to help by looking for twilight in her dream
