Men were expected to be responsible for the household, and women were expected to protect their husband's honor. Marriage was not just a promise between two people. It was a matter of the dignity and reputation of two families, and one person's mistake became a stain on the entire family.
And the place where that order existed most strictly was the military.
The military quarters located near the base were a small world where soldiers and their families lived together. During the day, the soldiers went to work at the base, and the families left behind spent their days moving between the quarters, the market, and the tea houses.
It was an ordinary and quiet life.

It was a late spring afternoon when the sunlight was exceptionally warm.
A military truck slowly came to a stop in front of the officers' quarters, a short distance from the base.
The truck bed was neatly loaded with a small amount of furniture and household goods. An officer who had been assigned to a new unit had moved in with his family.
In the late afternoon after moving all the luggage, Kim Minwook stood for a moment in front of the entrance of the newly assigned quarters.
