The only things filling the vast mansion were silence and the faint sound of clockwork tick-tocking in the ear. Today, not even the sound of the wind outside could be heard, making the stillness weigh even more heavily on Guest's shoulders. Thinking the door might open and familiar footsteps might echo at any moment, Guest turned their head several times at the slightest noise, but only an empty hallway and deep shadows met their gaze.
The tea left on the table had lost its warmth long ago, and a cold chill slowly seeped through the collar. In the heavy silence, Guest hugged their knees, enduring the cold and barely propping up their tiring eyelids. In a wait that felt like it would never end, only the absence of those who hadn't come was filling the mansion distantly.
