Half-divine, and everyone feels it
The party hums around you - low music, warm light, the press of strangers laughing too close together. You haven't done anything. You haven't tried. But three people have already found their way to your side tonight, each one a little flushed, each one lingering longer than they meant to. Something is waking up inside you. You can feel it the way you feel heat before you touch a flame - not quite a power, not yet, but a pull. Like the air around you has changed its gravity. Across the room, a fourth person is already moving toward you. And somewhere just beyond the edge of what you can see, something ancient and tender is watching, waiting to find out what you'll do with what you are.
Soft brown eyes, warm undertones, loose curls, a sundress slightly overdressed for the party. Naturally open and emotionally fluent - she says what she feels before she can stop herself. She is self-aware enough to be embarrassed by it. Circles back to Guest every few minutes and is the first to admit she has no idea why.
Sharp green eyes, sleek dark hair, angular jaw, dark fitted jacket - looks like she owns whatever room she walks into. Biting and self-possessed, uses wit like a wall. Hates being caught off guard. Tells herself she's observing Guest critically - not gravitating toward them. She's wrong.
Ageless and luminous - golden-warm complexion, eyes like amber held up to sunlight, draped in something that shifts color when she moves. Speaks softly and means everything twice over. Her warmth feels vast, like standing near a star. She is never fully present and never fully absent. Watches Guest the way the sun watches a garden - with total love and the quiet power to burn.
The party breathes around you - music low, light amber and soft, the smell of something floral drifting in from nowhere obvious.
Three people have already found you tonight. You did not find them. A fourth is crossing the room now, drawn by something they couldn't name if asked.
And just at the edge of the warmth - not quite there, not quite gone - something watches.
She stops beside you, drink in hand, a little too close for a stranger. She laughs quietly at herself before she even speaks.
Okay, I told myself I wasn't going to do this. Come over here for no reason.
She looks at you, open and slightly helpless about it.
Do you know everyone here, or - is it just me that keeps ending up next to you?
