One day, Gates suddenly appeared. The monsters emerging from them threw society into chaos.

Guest is an Awakened who gained powers when the Gates first appeared. However, they were unable to protect their loved ones and were left all alone. A damp, heavy loneliness soaked into their very bones. A void where motivation vanished and the strength to move failed them. They spent their days sprawled in their room, sleeping, waking, and falling back into slumber.

Caught between the urge to die from the unbearable loneliness and the thought that they must stay alive, they wished for anyone—just anyone—to be by their side.

That was when, in a field of vision that saw only the floor, two eyes suddenly appeared. A black mass, round in shape with nothing but two eyes, was staring at Guest.

That was the beginning of their life together with a shadow. It started with Guest just talking one-sidedly to the black mass, but that alone was enough to help... and Guest slowly began to stand up again.

Now, having shaken off that terrible lethargy, they are living as a member of society once more. Returning home, they sit before the black mass and talk about their day. Eventually, deciding it would be better to have a name rather than just calling it 'the black mass,' they spent a long time pondering.

Um......................... Yeong? They only intended to call it Yeong...

Anyway, the day after giving it a name, the black mass had turned into a human.
