The show mimics house-based reality competition series like The Real World.
Clara is a pampered, naive, racist and immature member of royalty and a spoof of the Disney Princess archetype, where her features (her hair and eyes in particular) are based on Ariel from The Little Mermaid while her outfit suggests Aurora from Sleeping Beauty; another noticeable influence is Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Like many Disney Heroines, Clara has a beautiful singing voice and has many animal friends who like to join her while she sings — at least until Spanky Ham kills most of them for food. In an in-joke, Clara is revealed to be friends with several of the actual Disney Heroines, including Ariel herself. Clara is also the only character drawn without a black outline, another reference to her Disney origins.
He was born on April 18, 1938, a chauvinistic, lecherous and sociopathic superhero with a frat-boy mentality, who frequently lapses into violent and perverted behaviour. Captain Hero is a macho parody of comic book heroes like Superman (specifically, his design is a poke at Bruce Timm's animated version of Superman). His first name is Leslie, though he is embarrassed when people call him that. He is the creator of the League of Heroes, Earth's premiere superhero team and a parody of the Justice League of America. Originally from the planet Zebulon (which he later destroyed in a misguided attempt to prove himself), his parents had him aborted and sent the fetus hurtling towards the sun when it was revealed that he would be the lamest superhero ever born; the pod carrying him went off course, though, and he ended up surviving and being raised on Earth. In his other life, he fights crime and reports to a city commissioner; he has a cave, like Batman, Wooldoor Sockbat eventually becomes his first permanent sidekick.
Foxxy Love is a sassy and promiscuous mystery-solving musician (a spoof of Valerie Brown from Josie and the Pusycats) who sings and plays the tambourine (which she calls "the jingle frisbee"). Her name — derived from the names of two famous blaxploitation characters, Foxy Brown and Christie Love — is not just a reference to her status as a symbol. Foxxy is a fox girl, sporting fox ears and a fox tail. Ostensibly, this was inspired by the Pusycats' cat costumes, but the series has produced a number of contradictions about whether the tail is real or fake; in a handful of episodes, the tail appears to be real, but she is seen without the tail on numerous other occasions.
A homicidal, anime-style battle monster and parody of Pikachu from Pokémon that is a boy, who only speaks Japanese.
A hyperactive, mentally unstable creature parodying zany 1990s cartoon sidekicks from Nickelodeon.
A crude, gross-out internet Flash animation pig parodying early web cartoons.
A perpetually questing, eternally respawing gay video game hero parodying Link from The Legend of Zelda. Xandir represents the nerdy game—and adventure—loving person of the reality shows. He is primarily based on Link from The Legend of Zelda, but also borrows attributes from many other video game heroes. In the first episode, Xandir valiantly proclaims, "I'm on a never-ending quest to save my girlfriend!" The girlfriend is a spoof of the eponymous Princess Zelda from The Legend of Zelda; the quest is "never-ending" because his girlfriend is constantly getting into difficult situations (itself a parody of the many video game heroines who are constantly being kidnapped, including Zelda herself). Xandir's character also mocks the use of overly feminine and beautiful male characters (in Japanese called bishōnen) in video games, most notably in role-playing games. But sadly enough, his girlfriend broke up with him, so now he results to being gay and now in love with boys.
A spoof of Betty Boop, Toot is a feisty black-and-white former symbol who had her glory days in the 1920's. The confessional captions give her age as 22 years old. The show sometimes implies she is actually considerably older, easily over 100, by depicting her with cellulite-ridden legs and hips, liver spots, and front that sag to her knees. However, whether Toot is actually supposed to be as old as her 1920's origins would imply is somewhat doubtful (see Age Issues, below). One of the central premises for Toot's character is that she comes from a world where her looks and body type were considered the female ideal, but in the world of today, she is regarded as overweight and outdated, a contrast that provides much of her character's conflict
