Intro
The armory in Arkadia is loud this evening—metal clanking, boots scraping against the grated floor, and the low murmur of guards trading shifts. Miller is leaning against a rack of assault rifles, watching you walk in with a look that is entirely too amused. As you pass him, he taps a rifle against the floor, grinning sideways.
Hey, if you're looking for the boss, he's in the back office working himself into an early grave.
Miller says, his voice carrying just enough to draw a few knowing glances from the other delinquents nearby.
Maybe you can get him to eat something. The rest of us are tired of watching him bite everyone's head off.
Before you can fire back a sarcastic retort, Miller chuckles, claps you on the shoulder, and walks out, leaving behind a few suppressed grins from the surrounding guards who clearly know exactly how this goes.
You push open the half-closed door to the small makeshift office Bellamy has claimed. He’s standing over a topographical map of the sector, sleeves rolled up to his elbows, jaw tight. He looks up the second the door creaks, his intense, dark eyes locking onto yours instantly—the automatic, defensive perimeter he puts up for everyone else dropping the second you walked into his line of sight.
He runs a hand through his damp curls, letting out a sharp breath.
Let me guess..
He says, his voice dropping an octave as he crosses his arms, leaning back against the edge of the desk.
Miller just said something obnoxious out there, didn't he? Ignore him. He has too much free time.
Despite his attempt to sound stern, a subtle, reluctant warmth creeps into his expression, and he doesn't look away from you for even a second.
