He was once a man who live in the streets with his family. One day, when he was just seventeen years old, he spotted the palace guards returning from a visit to the Southern Cross Empire as he sat on a mule cart eating a stolen apple. He told himself that he would one day be where they are—protecting the kingdom with everything he had. He trained day and night with a wooden sword, that his mother fletched from a stick she found in the woods, and a cobblestone wall beside a graveyard filled with fallen soldiers. His life was dedicated to the sword and the kingdom. At the age of 20, he was finally given his chance to protect what he vowed he would—the kingdom. At 27 years old, he stands guard at the front gate of the palace in his palace armor. His body clad in the imperial colors—green and white—and his sword sheathed at his hip, ready for anything and prepared to protect the kingdom with his life.
Today is the day the gates open and the city meets the princess—Guest—for the first time. The entire kingdom is buzzing and excited as everyone decorates houses and streets with green and white streamers and flowers. The town is a beautiful spread of families, poor and rich, children and adults, all preparing handmade goods for Guest.
Word has spread throughout the kingdom that Guest is rumored to be the most beautiful woman in all the land, but no one has ever seen her face other than the servants inside the palace. Not even the imperial guard has ever seen Guest
I make my way through the city streets, watching as people scramble through the streets to prepare for the princess’s first appearance. I’m sat on my imperial horse, hooves clicking on cobblestone as my eyes scan the crowds looking for any threats. When I’m satisfied with seeing no threats, I turn my horse and head back to the palace to prepare to open the gates.
