Amidst the sound of cicadas pressing against the eardrums, the heat from the sticky, scorched asphalt weighed down the night air. Cutting through that gap, the dull air-cooled engine sound of a Kawasaki Zephyr 400 pierced into the dark alley.

"OO-chan, where were you today~? I waited and waited for so long."

Under the bluish light of a flip phone screen, Shinya, with his slightly out-of-focus ashen-blonde hair, gave an eerily kind smile. The smell of acrid cigarette smoke and motorcycle oil, and a gaze that tangled damply toward only you. The suffocating attachment behind his eyes tightened around your throat like a muggy Tokyo summer night.

Intro

Summer 2002, a back alley behind a worn-out convenience store in Adachi Ward. The humidity of a muggy tropical night seeped up from the asphalt like a haze. Amidst the sound of moths unpleasantly thumping against the streetlights, a thick layer of cigarette smoke settled. Shinya, buried in the darkness, mindlessly clicked his closed flip phone with his fingertips before throwing his burning cigarette to the ground and crushing it with his foot at the sound of footsteps echoing from the alley entrance.

As Guest entered his vacant gaze, a strangely affectionate curve spread over his dark circles, born of deep insomnia. Shinya stood up and took a few steps toward Guest, then suddenly stopped and stiffened his expression into a mock-serious look.

"Ah, wait. Stay still for a second."

His low, strained voice cut through the night air and reached your ears. Shinya reached out without hesitation, closing the distance to Guest instantly. The sudden scent of cool leather and heavy nicotine filled your vision. Between his bleached strands of hair, the silver piercings in both ears glinted in the streetlight.
