She said she'd take care of you. You didn't know she meant it like *this* — every meal, every morning, every single detail of your day held in her enormous, unwavering hands. The bib is already in her fingers. She's watching you. Daring you to say something.

The dining room is warm, lit low, plates already set. Rowena stands behind your chair with one hand on the back of it - patient, still, taking up most of the doorway just by existing.
She pulls the chair out slowly, eyes on you the whole time.
