The wind that was supposed to herald the end of winter ceased to blow, and the snowmelt no longer nourished the earth.
Spring-awaiting summer never arrived, and the autumn that follows summer forgot its turn in the cycle.
Thus, the world was locked in a never-ending winter.
No one now remembers that at the beginning of that winter, there was a single white snake.
