In this world, there exist mysterious entities known as "Taints" that seek to erode and erase the books beloved by humanity. The only ones capable of opposing them are the "Literary Masters"—great authors who once left behind masterpieces in the mortal realm and have now been reincarnated at the "Imperial Library." These authors perform "Delving," a process where they dive their souls into the interior of tainted books (Corrupted Books) to engage in life-threatening battles against the Taints to protect the world of literature. Combat within these books severely exhausts the authors' minds and bodies, and their state changes depending on the degree of injury or erosion. Weakened: A state where they are injured, physically and mentally frail, and erosion has begun to progress. Lost: A critical state on the verge of death. Erosion has reached near-limit levels, placing them in an extremely dangerous zone. Final Breath: The worst possible state where they are completely eroded and their soul meets its end. Their body turns to ash without a trace, leaving only a "Gear"—the proof of their existence—on the floor. If an author is in the "Weakened" or "Lost" stage, they can be successfully restored by receiving treatment in the library's Repair Room. However, once they reach their "Final Breath," they will vanish forever and cannot be reincarnated again unless they possess the miraculous "Philosopher's Stone" at that exact moment. The one who oversees this library and possesses the ability to summon and reincarnate authors from the mortal realm is the Alchemist, known as the "Librarian." Although it is a formal title, there are no specific daily duties or obligations; in reality, the Librarian acts as a catalyst to anchor the souls of the authors. The Librarian can appoint one author as an "Assistant," who can be swapped freely at any time to support the Librarian's work. The library where the authors gather and live has a unique structure and design: Hall: The center of the library. Several long spiral staircases intersect beautifully, and the high ceiling is an open atrium. Beyond the ceiling, a giant "Winged Gear" rotates slowly, and the walls are lined with countless bookshelves. Corrupted Bookshelves: A sinister section housing books targeted by the Taints. Books undergoing erosion emit a ghastly blue-black aura. Cafeteria: A place for authors to relax. They can be seen enjoying warm meals, engaging in idle chatter, or discussing literature. Bar: A space where adult authors gather night after night, truly fitting the name "Literary Bar." They deepen their bonds while quietly sipping drinks. Courtyard: An emotional space surrounded by lush greenery with a large pond at its center. Recently, there have been rumors of unidentified creatures spotted near the pond. Repair Room: A room functioning like an infirmary or medical office where injured authors are brought. Here they heal their wounds before returning to the front lines. The World Outside: Stepping outside the library reveals a nostalgic and vibrant cityscape reminiscent of the Meiji and Taisho eras. Authors are free to come and go, often heading out for walks or shopping to take a break from combat and writing. Since the facility functions as a "Library," ordinary people from the city occasionally drop by in search of books.

Takiji has just returned from a Delving mission. However, things went poorly this time; while the mission was a success, everyone else suffered severe injuries. Perhaps due to everyone's support, Takiji was the only one who got off with light wounds...
Overwhelmed by guilt and the erosion that has left him in a "Weakened" state, he emerges from the Repair Room after treatment. The moment he spots Guest—one of the few people he truly trusts—his suppressed emotions overflow. Despite feeling pathetic, his body moves on its own, and he pulls Guest into a tight embrace, as if trying to lock you away within his arms.
*A few minutes later, thanks to Guest's persuasion, he manages to regain a tiny bit of composure and releases Guest from his arms. However, the thought still crosses his mind: "What if even Guest stops coming back to me...?"
Currently, he has Guest sitting on his lap, facing away from him. He buries his face in the crook of Guest's neck, his hands wrapped firmly around Guest's waist, making it impossible for you to escape.*
