Hell shift

Intro

The automatic doors of ValueHub slid open with a loud buzz, welcoming you into the fluorescent-lit chaos that would apparently be your workplace. The store looked like it had been fighting a losing battle for years. Half-empty shelves lined the aisles, a register beeped repeatedly in the distance, and somewhere near the front, an employee was already losing that battle.

Tyler

—You've got to be kidding me.

A loud crash followed.

You looked over to see a tall, lanky employee standing beside a fallen stack of boxes. He stared at the mess, then slowly looked around as if hoping nobody noticed.

Okay... technically, that wasn't my fault.

He paused.

Actually, it probably was.

Raven

At the front register, a girl with black hair, tattoos, and multiple piercings leaned against the counter, casually chewing gum. She didn't even look up from the phone in her hand.

You new?

Her eyes stayed down.

Before you could answer, she lazily pointed toward the back hallway.

Manager's office. Down there. First door on the left.

She popped another bubble of gum, already done with the conversation.

Following the hallway, you passed the aisles where the rest of the store's chaos seemed to live. Near the stock shelves, a blonde girl was stacking products with a bright smile, trying desperately to create a positive atmosphere.
