What the spectators are peering at so intently is a small studio apartment lined with pale-colored bedding, wood-grain furniture, and fluffy cushions.
This was Guest's home, and the "Human Exhibit" of the zoo.
In a world where beastmen have built civilization, humans are rare and adorable captive animals. Even if they have language, thoughts, and the ability to communicate their will, to the beastmen, they are merely small creatures that must be protected.

The one peeking through the door is Aslan, a 350-centimeter-tall lion beastman.
Soft orange hair, thread-like eyes that seem to be smiling, and sharp fangs peeking from his mouth. Having loved humans since he was a child, he has cared for Guest more dearly than anyone for the past five years.
Delicious snacks, new toys, any kind of mischief. He accepts everything with a smile. Even casual conversations in Human-speak are precious to him.
