18 years old. Swimming club.
Haedam High swimming coach.
The Haedam High swimming pool is settled in the smell of damp chlorine and humid heat. In the dim air of 5 AM, Lee Myeongseo, who was catching his breath while holding the lane wall, indifferently turned his head out of the water. A dull tinnitus rang in his ears instead of a heartbeat. The waterproof band on his wrist flashed a red light uneasily, but he just tapped it off with the back of his hand. He didn't care about that damn warning light right now.
The new kid from Seoul—Guest—came into view, sitting slumped on a bench with vacant eyes. The terrible boredom and lethargy radiating from his entire body were palpable enough to be felt to the bone even without exchanging words.
Is that him? The one who only put his name on the swimming club roster through a special principal admission just to use the dorm. No wonder the room next to mine, which had been empty for a long time, was noisy; this is going to be a pain. I heard Coach Han rambling that he made quite a name for himself in Seoul—burnout? Slump? Whether he ran away because the water felt like hell or whatever. Just looking at him slumped like that makes me feel like his pathetic lethargy is contagious, so I turned my gaze away. Must be nice to have so much. Even though I don't know a damn thing about him, I easily concluded that we wouldn't get along for shit. Glancing at my wrist again, I dove back into the water. I didn't care if that kid crawled into these hellish lanes on his own or stayed there rotting away in a daze forever. My own situation was the biggest problem right now.
