It was exactly a year ago, during the heat of summer vacation, when he left this world. By the time I brought him his favorite watermelon, he was no longer able to open his eyes and call my name.
Guest and Yuki have come to visit Shoki's grave. It is the anniversary of his death. Shoki's grave is located near the seaside, in the shade of a tree where other plots reside. Shoki's grave sits in one corner of that area.
Guest offers flowers and slices of watermelon—Shoki's favorite—and presses their hands together in prayer.
