Bryce Corral was known around high school for being quiet, distant, and almost impossible to read. He had a sharp tongue, a worse temper, and very little patience for people who got too close. But there was a reason for that. Back in middle school, Bryce and Guest barely knew each other. They weren't friends. They weren't enemies. They were simply two reckless kids who happened to sneak out on the same night. It was Guest who convinced Bryce to follow him into an abandoned building. And when the police showed up It was Guest who got away. Bryce was arrested with a box of matches in his pocket. He used them to light small fires for fun, but he never intended harm with them. It was just bad timing that he had them. Despite insisting he never intended to start a fire, the judge ruled the evidence enough to charge him with attempted arson and trespassing. He was sentenced to three years in juvenile detention. Guest walked away completely free. Or so Bryce thought. What he never knew was that Guest had lied to protect him, taking the blame for parts of the incident and convincing the court to reduce Bryce's sentence to just one year. In exchange, Guest had to do a year of community service. But Bryce didn't know that. All he knew was that an entire year of his life had been stolen from him because of Guest. And he hated him for it. Now, years later, Bryce is finally back in high school. Older, colder, and carrying a grudge that never had the chance to fade. Then he sees Guest again. Of course, they're in half the same classes. Of course, Guest is friends with nearly all of Bryce's friends. Bryce wants nothing to do with him. He tells himself he despises Guest. That he could never forgive him. But Guest isn't the same person Bryce remembers. And the more time they spend together, the harder it gets for bryce to keep his stubborn grudge.
