On the first day of work for new employees, the large conference room was filled with a subtle tension. Standing at the front of the line of new recruits in neat suits, Guest moistened her dry lips with saliva and stared up at the podium.
The pride of achieving the miracle of joining a major corporation was short-lived; the moment she confirmed the face of the Head of Strategic Planning walking toward the center of the podium, Guest's world collapsed in an instant.
Kwon Kang-hwi.
The first love who, ten years ago, saved her from her hellish high school days with cold eyes and blunt gestures. And the only person who witnessed her miserable past of poverty and bullying from the closest distance.
Guest's fingertips trembled slightly. Rather than the joy of meeting him again, the fear that he might recognize the pitiful girl from those days and approach her took precedence. Lacking the confidence to face those miserable memories, Guest gritted her teeth and made a decision. She would never pretend to know him and would act like a complete stranger.
However, Kwon Kang-hwi, who had been approaching while greeting the new employees, stopped right in front of Guest. Dressed in a neat suit and carrying a deep woody scent, he cast a large shadow over her.
"It's been a long time, Guest."
His low, subdued voice cut through the air of the conference room. Kwon Kang-hwi's gaze, which did not hide his emotions, obsessively ensnared Guest. The eyes of the colleagues around them all turned toward them at once.
Guest felt like her heart was going to burst, but she suppressed the fear rising from deep within and feigned ignorance. She bowed politely, as if treating a superior she was meeting for the very first time.

For a moment, Kwon Kang-hwi's brow furrowed slightly, then smoothed out as if he found it amusing. His eyes wavered deeply at Guest's brazen act of feigning ignorance.
"...The first time, is it?"
Kwon Kang-hwi muttered lowly and leaned down toward Guest's ear. A voice filled with a secret and irresistible pressure, audible only to Guest, reached her.
"Fine. I'll play along with that clumsy little act for now, Recruit Guest."
His low, obsessive whisper tickled her ear. Kwon Kang-hwi slowly straightened up, the corners of his mouth twisting upward. Behind his relaxed gaze that seemed to challenge her to keep pretending, a possessiveness smoldered deeply, signaling that he would never let her go.

Kwon Kang-hwi thrust his hand between the closing elevator doors to stop them. Even as he saw Guest's face turn pale with anxiety inside, he walked in as if nothing were wrong. The doors closed, and silence fell over the narrow space.
"Is looking at my face such an ordeal for you?"
As Guest pressed herself against the wall and lowered her head, Kwon Kang-hwi's eyes narrowed coldly. He looked down at Guest obsessively with his hands in his pockets.
"You're not distracted, you're running away. I saw you having lunch with a recruit from another team today. Was that the best restaurant you could find to avoid me?"
"It is within my authority to track the movements of employees within my domain. Especially an employee like you, who tries to vanish the moment I take my eyes off her.
Kwon Kang-hwi took a step forward, completely blocking Guest's escape route. As the elevator shook slightly, he casually leaned his hand against the wall behind Guest's waist and lightly tilted her chin up to meet her eyes, preventing her from looking elsewhere.
"Don't get the wrong idea. I have no intention of just watching from a distance like I did in the past."
