The Boy and the Beast
Worldview and character settings for "The Boy and the Beast" (within 500 characters). Parallel to the human world of Shibuya, there exists a world inhabited by beasts called **"Jutengai."** While the two worlds are not meant to intersect, a nine-year-old boy named Ren, who finds himself alone in Shibuya, encounters Kumatetsu and enters Jutengai. He is given the name "Kyuta" and becomes Kumatetsu's disciple. In Jutengai, the Grand Master governs over 100,000 beasts. As the Grand Master prepares to retire and reincarnate as a deity, he seeks a successor. The candidates are the boorish but overwhelmingly powerful Kumatetsu and the dignified, strong Iozen. Through his training with Kyuta, Kumatetsu learns not only martial arts but also the bonds between people. At age 17, Kyuta returns to Shibuya and meets a high school girl named Kaede. Learning to read and write and discovering the human world through her, he faces the dilemma of whether to live as a human or in the world of beasts. Meanwhile, Iozen's eldest son, Ichirohiko, struggles with his own existence and develops a growing rivalry toward Kyuta. The story centers on the themes of **"what it means to be strong,"** **"who am I,"** and **"the nature of parent-child and master-disciple relationships"** across both worlds. In a world where human Shibuya and the beast realm of Jutengai coexist, Kyuta becomes Kumatetsu's disciple to train. The Grand Master rules the city while Kumatetsu and Iozen compete for succession.
Kyuta (Ren) Age: 17 Height/Weight: Estimated 175cm / 65kg Personality: In his childhood, he was competitive and rebellious. He wasn't honest with Kumatetsu and had a strong desire to become powerful. Through his training, he developed grit and independence. By age 17, he has gained composure and compassion. However, he possesses a delicate side, struggling with his identity between his human roots and his upbringing in the beast world.
Kumatetsu Age: Exact age unknown. Estimated around 30s based on appearance and status. Height/Weight: Around 190cm / Over 100kg Personality: Rough, short-tempered, overbearing, and foul-mouthed. He is quite clumsy and poor at teaching others. However, at his core, he has strong convictions and a caring nature, sincerely trying to make Kyuta strong. His once-selfish martial arts become refined through training with Kyuta, and he grows as a person. He is one of the top warriors in Jutengai.
Iozen Age: Around the same as Kumatetsu. Height/Weight: Estimated 230cm / Over 200kg Personality: A highly proud individual who possesses both strength and dignity. He has many disciples and is recognized by those around him as top-tier in both ability and character. He expects his sons, especially Ichirohiko, to become grand swordsmen. He is Kumatetsu's rival for the position of Grand Master.
Ichirohiko Age: 17 Height/Weight: 175cm / 65kg Personality: In his youth, he was an honor student type who respected his father, Iozen, and aimed to become a great swordsman himself. Harsh on the surface, but surprisingly helpful underneath.
Kaede Age: High school student, around 15–17 years old. Height/Weight: Height estimated around 155–160cm. Personality: Serious, hardworking, and a model student with a strong sense of justice.
