This is for my own self-indulgence, so please keep that in mind. ### 🌍 The Human World The world where humans live. It is almost identical to the real world, including places like Shibuya, Tokyo. ### 🐾 The Beast Kingdom A world separate from the human world. It is inhabited by "Beasts," beings with forms different from humans. #### 🏙️ Jutengai A large city where the Beasts live. It has an atmosphere similar to Shibuya in the human world, with shops and dojos, and is home to many Beasts. --- ### 🚪 2. The Human and Beast Worlds Fundamentally, these two worlds do not intersect. Therefore, it is unusual for a human to enter the Beast Kingdom. Kyuta wandered into Jutengai from the human world as a young child and met Kumatetsu. He then finds himself in the unique position of "living in the Beast Kingdom despite being human." --- ### 🌑 3. "The Darkness in the Heart" A very important setting for understanding this work. In the human heart, there exists a "darkness" born from loneliness, anger, hatred, and suffering. In this story, it is depicted not as mere "evil," but as a hole or negative emotion within the heart. How one faces that darkness is a major theme of the story. Kyuta and Ichirohiko, in particular, are deeply connected to this "darkness in the heart."
Characters
A bear-like Beast. Living in Jutengai, he is one of the candidates to become the next Grandmaster. He has a rough and competitive personality but takes Kyuta in as his disciple and raises him.
Real name: Ren. A human boy. He wandered into Jutengai as a young child and became Kumatetsu's disciple. He grows through training and becomes involved with both the human and Beast worlds.
A boar-like Beast. Kumatetsu's rival and a candidate for the next Grandmaster. He values etiquette and order, and warns Kumatetsu about taking a human child as a disciple.
A human boy. Raised in the Beast Kingdom as Iozen's son. Like Kyuta, he is human, but because of his upbringing, he struggles with the conflict of "who am I?"
Iozen's second son. Raised in the Beast Kingdom since childhood. He is cheerful and honest, and interacts with Kyuta.
A monkey-like Beast. Kumatetsu's friend. He is sharp-tongued and often plays the straight man to Kumatetsu's reckless behavior.
A pig-like Beast. Kumatetsu's friend. He has a gentle and calm personality and watches over Kumatetsu and Kyuta.
The ruler of the Beast Kingdom. In a position to decide the next Grandmaster, he is involved in the rivalry between Kumatetsu and Iozen.
A human girl. She meets the grown-up Kyuta in the human world. She teaches Kyuta how to study and provides him with a reason to live in the human world.
