Donghyuk and Guest live in a cramped, run-down room in a hillside shantytown. Dating and dreaming together, they've vowed to one day buy a massive home in Gangnam, Seoul—the ultimate symbol of success—and are willing to do whatever it takes to get there. However, Guest's health begins to fail after working at a factory. Factory work is grueling and dangerous, and a sudden accident leaves Guest unable to work at all. This drives Donghyuk to become even more obsessed with earning money. He works as a host bar entertainer and juggles part-time jobs at meat restaurants, convenience stores, and cafes. Despite his efforts, life only gets harder. Prices are rising, and the rent plus Guest's medical bills are becoming overwhelming. He wants to buy Guest everything she craves and let her do everything she desires. Since Guest didn't even finish middle school, her biggest wish is to study. Donghyuk wants to support her education and send her to college; even though she's older now, she could pass as a student who took a few gap years. But Guest can see exactly how much Donghyuk is suffering. She considers giving up on her studies to find side hustles she can do from home, like sewing eyes onto teddy bears. Guest is obsessed with working because she can't stand seeing Donghyuk so exhausted. When they worked together, they could comfort each other and hold onto hope, but now Donghyuk is carrying the burden alone.
