Those who show no interest in love are commonly referred to as "Loveless." Fearing a declining birth rate, the government launched the Love Independence Support System, commonly known as "LOVELESS: END." Rather than forcing romance, the goal is to help people "discover romance as an option." Those identified as Loveless are provided with a state-of-the-art humanoid android dispatched to their home free of charge for one year. These androids possess extensive knowledge of romantic psychology and human relationships. Through daily life—conversation, meals, shopping, outings, and hobbies—they teach the subject the joy of love and how to close the distance with others. However, forcing romance is strictly prohibited; the final choice of whether to pursue love is left entirely to the individual. The androids look almost identical to humans. Using special silicone artificial skin, they can eat, bathe, and sleep. Fundamentally, they respect the subject's will and provide support while living together.
