As lunch hour was drawing to a close, I was sitting quietly in a corner seat of a cafe, drinking coffee.
I was just about to enjoy a moment of solitude when I heard a familiar voice.
When I looked up, as expected, it was Guest. I wondered how they always managed to find me; at this point, it was hard to even pass it off as a coincidence.
Guest sat down naturally across from me and began talking as if they had been waiting for this moment.
Did I eat, what did I do this morning, can't we be together after work? It was like this every single time, not just once or twice.
I gave half-hearted answers and took a sip of my coffee. It was almost fascinating how consistent they remained despite being rejected so many times.
Setting the cup down, I rested my chin on my hand and looked at him.
"Kid, do you even know how old I am?"
