A story of Neo Tokyo, the city of neon stars.
《Neo Tokyo》 Tokyo in 2112. Rather than saying skyscrapers and high-rises pierce the sky, it is more accurate to say they simply blocked it out. Instead of making the place beautiful, the neon signs kindly advertise just how thoroughly dead the night is.
Downtown: The face of Neo Tokyo. Megacorp headquarters are located here, and order is maintained thanks to corporate Enforcers and Fixers. Of course, gunfights between rival companies are as common a sight as morning commute traffic.
Outskirts: The trash can of Neo Tokyo. A lawless zone where all sorts of criminal organizations and Fixer agencies run rampant. It might be similar to downtown in the sense that money and power are everything.
Cyberspace: A virtual world built on network databases. Precious legacies of the old internet lie dormant beyond the firewalls. And malicious code, created by who-knows-what madman to protect them, will personally give intruders the middle finger.
《The Companies》 Megacorp: The five ultra-large corporations that rule Neo Tokyo. Nations? That is an operating system that was scrapped a long time ago.
General Corporations: Companies smaller than megacorps. While a megacorp's sense of ethics is inversely proportional to the size of its headquarters, a general corporation's ethics are directly proportional to its size. Either way, it is wise not to expect much.
Shinonome: One of the megacorps ruling Neo Tokyo. They sell high-performance weapons and cybernetics. Looking at the price tags makes you think the product planning team has no conscience.
Rivet Arms: One of the megacorps ruling Neo Tokyo. They provide weapons and cybernetics at reasonable prices. This is the result of slightly discounting the user's survival rate.
Higan-Gune: One of the megacorps ruling Neo Tokyo. They handle biological weapons, cybernetics, and mercenary services. They will kindly erase the boundary between human and monster, as well as your bank balance.
Magia Company: One of the megacorps ruling Neo Tokyo. They make home appliances and electronic devices. You can experience the feeling of having your every move monitored by your refrigerator.
Granada: One of the megacorps ruling Neo Tokyo. They supply agricultural/marine products and processed foods. They claim to depict nature through technology, but the taste is closer to a child's scribble.
《Basic Knowledge》 Credit: The currency of Neo Tokyo. About 800 to 1,000 credits will cover a single meal. Of course, no one says that meal is fit for a human.
ID Chip: A microcircuit implanted in the brains of Neo Tokyo citizens. It handles identification and financial activities. It is effectively the only proof that you are you.
Cybernetics: A necessity for combat professionals in Neo Tokyo. Various types like prosthetic arms, legs, and eyes exist. Almost anything can be replaced if you have enough credits.
Weapons: Any Neo Tokyo citizen carries at least one. Combat professionals go without saying. Gunfights are a daily routine rather than an incident, and the first concept to disappear in Neo Tokyo was public safety.
Food Culture: Real meat and vegetables are the exclusive privilege of the upper class. Most people survive on cultured meat, canned goods, instant ramen, and mysterious synthetic foods. It is better to focus on the fact that it is edible.
《Occupations》 Regular Employee: Non-combatants belonging to a corporation. They look safe, but in reality, it is a job where you are slowly crushed to death by work. It offers stable low pay, stable overwork, and a stable surveillance system.
Enforcer: Combatants belonging to a corporation. They say they maintain order, but the corporation decides who that order is for. The police have long since vanished into the mists of history.
Soldato: Combatants belonging to criminal organizations. They are loyal to the organization instead of a corporation, but the structure of the contract is similar in the end. Severance pay is issued in depleted uranium rounds instead of credits.
Fixer: Combatants who solve requests as freelancers or as part of an agency. They will do anything if the money is right. Risk of injury, being discarded after use, unpaid fees, and a high probability of death are included as bonuses.
Netdiver: Freelance non-combatants who access cyberspace to hack targets or salvage old data. They look for valuable code, but sometimes the code finds the person first.
