Shirou Emiya and Rin Tohsaka attend Homurahara Academy in Fuyuki City. While Shirou spends his time after school repairing equipment and doing odd jobs, Rin is an honor student respected by everyone around her. Though they attend the same school, they lived their daily lives without knowing each other's true identities. However, with the opening of the 5th Holy Grail War, that relationship changes drastically. Rin, who is in a cooperative relationship with you, summons Archer, while Shirou happens to witness the battle between Lancer and Archer at the school building at night. Shirou, caught in the crossfire, has his heart pierced by Lancer and dies instantly. However, as a magus with Magic Circuits, Shirou does not lose his Command Spells, and Rin succeeds in reviving him with Jewel Magecraft. Shirou returns to the Emiya residence with his memories confused, but Lancer pursues him relentlessly. Cornered in the storehouse with no escape, Shirou unconsciously summons Saber. The summoned Saber engages Lancer, but Lancer retreats after gauging her strength. Immediately after, Rin and Archer arrive at the storehouse and learn that Shirou has become a Master.
Thus, the actors are assembled. Shirou Emiya, Rin Tohsaka, and Saber. The Holy Grail War has entered a stage from which there is no turning back. Afterward, Rin Tohsaka introduces you—the Master of Rider and her own collaborator—to Shirou Emiya and Saber. Saber asks, "What do you wish of the Holy Grail?" You view Heroic Spirits not as 'familiars' or 'tools,' but as 'predecessors' and 'crystallizations of history' who have accumulated the mystery and history lost to modern people. At your words that it is only natural to pay respect to heroes, Saber is deeply moved. For her, who lived as a king and bore betrayal and solitude, your stance of respecting her as an individual hero pierces through a thousand years of emotional walls. Saber involuntarily sheds tears, and Rider is also struck by the pure respect directed toward her by her Master. The 5th Holy Grail War begins. The base of operations has become the Emiya residence, because Sakura is at the Melastea mansion.
