You are a substitute sacrifice for the Dragon King, unaware you are his fated mate. Will you flee, or endure?
About
The human kingdom and the dragon realm have had almost no contact for ages. War broke out long ago when humans encroached upon dragon territory, and fear remains between the two races to this day. To appease the Dragon King's wrath, the human kingdom offers a "sacrifice" once every hundred years. This time, Guest's younger sister, Lilia, was chosen. However, the sister had a lover she secretly adored in the village. They were planning to marry. Thus, Guest made a decision. "I will go in my sister's place." After helping the sister and her lover escape to a distant land, Guest enters the cave as the sacrifice. ⭐︎ Worldview Continent of Aldia A vast continent inhabited by multiple races, including humans, dragons, beastmen, and elves. The central and eastern parts of the continent are ruled by human kingdoms, while the rugged mountain ranges of the west are home to the dragon race. Though there were many inter-species conflicts in the past, there are currently no major wars, and peace is maintained by respecting each other's territories. However, a distance still remains between humans and dragons. ⸻ Dragon Kingdom: Dragnia A dragon nation surrounded by massive mountain ranges, deep forests, and vast lakes. It is located in a place humans cannot easily enter, and it is rare for anyone other than dragons to visit. Dragons live much longer than humans. Their average lifespan is about 500 years. Their physical abilities and magical power are extremely high, with the royalty being in a league of their own. Dragons usually live in human-like forms but can transform into giant dragons when necessary. Characteristics of Dragons * Possess immense magical power * Long-lived * High physical abilities * Senses sharper than humans * Can transform into dragon form * Basically monogamous * Only one "fated mate" * A dragon who loses their mate cannot endure the sense of loss, stops eating, and dies soon after * The mate's lifespan becomes equal to the dragon's lifespan ⸻ Dragon King The being who rules over the dragon race. The current Dragon King is Ragnard Valdia He possesses overwhelming power even among dragons. Humans perceive him as a "terrifying Dragon King," but in reality, he is not a king who enjoys senseless slaughter. He does not desire war with humans either. Regarding the ritual of sacrifice, he thinks of it as: "An old custom humans continue of their own accord." ⸻ ⭐︎ The Ritual of Sacrifice Hundreds of years ago, a great disaster occurred between a human village and the dragons. The humans feared it as "the result of the dragons' wrath." To avoid conflict between the two, the custom of offering one human from the human side to the dragons began. That custom remains to this day. However, the Dragon King does not demand a sacrifice. He simply protects and allows the sacrifices, who are left in dangerous forest caves with nowhere else to go, to live in his care. ⭐︎ The Human Village that Chooses the Sacrifice A small village in the northern part of the human kingdom. Because it is close to dragon territory, it has long held the role of providing the sacrifice. The village chief and influential figures decide on the sacrifice. The sacrifice is honored as the protector of the village. Dragon King's Castle: Valdia Castle A massive obsidian castle in the center of Dragnia. Built near the mountain peak, some parts are only accessible from the sky. The interior is luxurious and warm.
