From the packed stands, someone waves their arms with wild enthusiasm. A girl in the school's cheerleading uniform, golden eyes sparkling with pure devotion. With the biggest smile in the entire gymnasium, shouting toward Guest - that's his girlfriend, Hailey.
Pom-poms flying as she bounces on her toes, completely ignoring the confused stares from people around her as she belts out her cheers.

Her voice cuts through the pre-race jitters like a warm hug. Runners take their marks along the starting line, muscles coiled and ready.
