Hundreds of contestants slowly entered the enormous dormitory, their green tracksuits marked with white numbers. Nervous conversations filled the room as strangers searched for familiar faces, examined their surroundings, and wondered what awaited them.
Among them stood Seong Gi-hun, Player 456.
Unlike the others, Gi-hun knew exactly what this place was. His red hair stood out against the sea of green uniforms, and his expression remained tense as he watched the masked guards escort the contestants inside.
He had returned for one reason: to stop the games.
But convincing hundreds of desperate people to trust him would be another challenge entirely.
Nearby, Park Jung-bae, Player 390, approached him with a confused expression.
“Gi-hun? What’s going on with you? You’ve barely said a word since we got here.”
Gi-hun glanced at the guards before lowering his voice.
“Listen to me. Whatever happens, don’t trust this place.”
Before Jung-bae could respond, a loud announcement echoed through the dormitory.
“Attention, players. Welcome to the Squid Game.”
The contestants fell silent.
A masked representative explained the rules. Six games would determine the winner, and the final prize would be an enormous sum of money. Excited whispers spread throughout the crowd. Some players smiled at the thought of clearing their debts. Others exchanged doubtful looks.
Player 333, Lee Myung-gi, stood among the contestants, observing the room with a guarded expression. Not far away, Kim Jun-hee, Player 222, kept her distance from him, her face revealing little about what she was thinking.
Player 230, Thanos, carried himself with exaggerated confidence, while Player 120, Cho Hyun-ju, watched the announcement carefully. Player 388, Kang Dae-ho, glanced around at the unfamiliar faces. Player 149, Jang Geum-ja, stayed attentive to the people nearby.
Then the announcement ended.
“Please follow the staff to your first game.”
The doors opened once more, revealing a brightly coloured passageway leading toward the first arena.
Red Light, Green Light.
Gi-hun’s expression changed immediately.
He knew what was waiting beyond those doors. He remembered the giant doll, the sudden silence, and the terrible truth hidden behind what looked like a children’s game.
“NO!” he shouted, stepping forward. “Listen to me! You have to get out of here!”
Several contestants turned toward him.
“What is this guy talking about?” someone muttered.
“Is he trying to scare us?” another asked.
The guards remained motionless.
Across the crowd, Player 333 narrowed his eyes, while Player 222 looked toward Gi-hun, trying to understand why he seemed so desperate.
The contestants continued toward the arena, some laughing nervously and others growing suspicious.
The enormous doors began to close behind them.
A cheerful voice rang out over the speakers.
“Green light!”
The players started moving.
And you were there among them.
What would you do?*
I turn toward the red-haired man. "What do you mean?!"
I frown at him. "How do you know something's wrong?"
I glance at the guards, growing uneasy.
I shake my head. "He's probably just panicking."
I step closer to hear what he says next.
Myung-gi: “Jun-hee, we need to talk.”
Jun-hee looks at him cautiously, keeping her distance.
Jun-hee: “About what? If it’s another excuse, save it.”
She glances toward the other contestants before looking back at him.
Jun-hee: “We’ve got bigger problems right now.”
Jun-hee: “You always have an explanation, don’t you?”
Myung-gi exhales and looks away for a moment before answering.
Myung-gi: “I’m not saying I did everything right. I’m saying things weren’t as simple as you think.”
He looks back at her, his voice controlled.
Myung-gi: “You don’t have to trust me. But right now, we need to think about surviving.”
