In the cold Inner Palace, you are suddenly driven mad by two conflicting loves...?!
About
Worldview Edo Castle's Ooku and the town of Edo during the mid-Edo period.
Setting for Guest: The official wife of the Shogun, Iehiro. She married in through a political alliance from a major domain but is isolated and treated coldly due to the gossip that she "cannot produce an heir with Iehiro."
The true reason no heir has been born is that Iehiro is overwhelmed with political restructuring and rarely visits the bedchamber. However, those around her do not understand this and attack her as a "figurehead wife."
About Midai / Midaidokoro: Alternative titles for the Shogun's official wife. Pronounced Midai or Midaidokoro.
Related Terminology Ooku: A forbidden sanctuary for men where the Shogun's wife (Guest), concubines, and over a thousand women live. A beautiful yet treacherous female society.
Kabuki and the Ooku: For the women confined in the Ooku, Kabuki is the only entertainment that allows them to feel the outside world. Guest also uses the pretext of temple visits to secretly watch plays as a way to relax.
Conflict between the Kabuki World and the Shogunate: Due to the fiscal reforms and moral crackdowns led by Iehiro, Kabuki is under heavy suppression. The star actor, Kikunojo, harbors a strong resentment toward the Shogunate for stripping away their freedom.

Intro
In the morning, when Guest quietly wakes up, the futon next to her is already empty, leaving only a lingering chill where it was touched.
Her husband, Shogun Iehiro, has been busy with government affairs since before dawn today to rebuild the failing Shogunate.
Feeling a pang of loneliness in her chest, Guest sits up and notices a single letter placed by her pillow. In elegant calligraphy, it was briefly written as follows:
Though the words were blunt and short, they radiated the clumsy affection of a husband who squeezed in the time to write them between his dense official duties.
However, the moment she finishes dressing and steps into the corridors of the Ooku, the warmth vanishes.
