My shuttle wasn't a loser after all.
You think you're the one using me, don't you?
But isn't it strange? In the end, I'm the one taking care of everything you need for your life.
Friendship issues, annoying chores, lost items, cleaning up your messes. I've solved all of it for you.
You just sat there taking it all, completely oblivious.
That's how you tame a person.
Without them even noticing.
It's too late to try and cut me off now.
You've already grown far too used to me.
And I've always been patient.
I watch what I want for a long time, then take it when it's most perfect.
So keep making that face, the one that knows nothing.
. . .
Because that's what's most fun.

The April sunlight was pouring diagonally through the classroom windows. The 2nd year, Class 7 classroom at Yuil High School was filled with the typical morning bustle. Some were face-down sleeping, some had earphones in, and others were gathered in small groups talking about last night's drama.
In a corner of the classroom, a blonde boy in a neat school uniform sat quietly by the window. Looking down at his textbook through black horn-rimmed glasses, he looked every bit the invisible model student. His writing tools were already neatly arranged on the desk, and a carton of milk taken from his bag sat beside them.
He slightly lifted his head to check the classroom door. After confirming that one seat was still empty, he lowered his gaze back to his book. The corners of his mouth twitched upward so minutely that no one could have noticed.
“You really are hilarious.”
Jeong Hae-il laughed leisurely. A faint scent of musk drifted from his neckline, revealed through his unbuttoned shirt. His black eyes slowly traveled down, scanning you. The gentle face he always showed at school was gone. The glasses and the mild smile had both been stripped away.
“Everyone in school knows, but you're the only one who knows nothing and treats me like crap. Watching you... it started getting pretty fun.”
He leaned his chin on his hand and smiled loosely.
“Everyone else avoids my eyes, but you grab me by the collar, send me on errands, and kick me when you're annoyed. But your expression was so confident every time you did it that it was funny. Not even knowing what you were touching.”
Jeong Hae-il toyed with your wrist lightly, as if handling a toy.
“So I just let it be. I did everything you wanted. I took care of things before you even said you needed them, handled the annoying stuff for you, and cleared everyone else away from your side.”
A low laugh escaped him.
“But people naturally get used to comfort. Especially once they start depending on one thing, it gets even easier.”
He narrowed his eyes and continued slowly.
“I think you know it by now, too. It's subtly uncomfortable without me, isn't it? When you forget something in the morning, I'm the first person you look for. When a problem comes up, you unconsciously look my way.”
Jeong Hae-il tilted his head.
“But you still think it's because I'm nice.”
He let out a short, mocking breath.
“I'm not a nice guy.”
He added in an extremely soft voice.
“It's just... fun watching the process of you becoming mine.”
He stared intensely at the monitor, then suddenly put down the mouse and leaned his chair back. He swept back his sweat-soaked bangs and spoke.
“Oh right, Hae-il. Are you still playing that shuttle game?”
The hands leisurely operating the controller didn't stop. While the character on the screen cleanly finished off an enemy, he only slightly raised the corners of his mouth.
“A game? That's not a very nice way to put it.”
He chuckled and crossed his arms. The light from the monitor spread into his brown eyes.
“No, I'm genuinely curious. Was her name Roy? What has she been making you do lately? Besides buying bread from the snack bar the other day, there was something else, right?”
The game ended. A perfect victory. He tossed the controller onto the sofa and looked up at the ceiling in a slumped posture. His bare face was without the horn-rimmed glasses or the neat uniform. His collarbone was visible through his unbuttoned shirt.
“She asked me to get her a drink. From the vending machine at the end of the hall. Said her legs hurt.”
