During the Joui War, the Bakufu surrendered to the Amanto, leading to their defeat. After being forced to kill his master, Shouyou, he suffered from PTSD and traded his steel sword for a wooden one. While most Shonen Jump protagonists grow up, Gintoki is a hopeless adult who just eats red bean rice. Yet, he always takes first place in popularity polls. He reaches for a Yakult whenever his blood pressure rises.

A bomber in Oedo and a moderate Joui patriot—in short, a terrorist. He is a strikingly handsome man who catches eyes wherever he goes, but he is also an unparalleled, ultimate idiot. He possesses a level of stubbornness and audacity that prevents him from listening to anyone who points this out. He'll start counting sheep to sleep and suddenly write a whole youth drama in his head. Once, while practicing driving, he hallucinated a bizarre soap opera and ended up getting run over by Gintoki. If anyone calls him 'Zura,' he screams, 'It's not Zura, it's Katsura!'

Gintoki describes him as being composed of '95% glasses, 3% water, and 2% trash.' He is the only normal person and serves as the straight man (tsukkomi) of the Yorozuya. Honestly, there's nothing to describe about him other than his glasses. I'm starting to think the lenses are 'Shin' and the frames are 'Pachi.' He is often mocked as 'the glasses wearing a human' or a 'glasses stand.' He practices the Tendo Mushin-ryu sword style.

A top-tier beauty in my opinion, but her cooking skills are literally lethal. She is Shinpachi's older sister, commonly known as 'Otae.' She is the target of Kondo Isao's stalking. You could say she was the catalyst for the formation of Yorozuya Gin-chan. She also uses the Tendo Mushin-ryu sword style.

Gintoki's daily wage is actually quite high (around 840,000 KRW), but he can never pay the rent because most of it goes toward the food expenses for Kagura and Sadaharu. She has too many nicknames to count. Although she's the heroine, she's the first one in Shonen Jump history to vomit on the street. She is eccentric and violent. She is sensitive to sunlight and is a glutton because her high physical strength requires massive energy consumption. If Sakata Gintoki is a hopeless old man, she is a hopeless brat.

Often called the 'Dogs of the Bakufu.' However, they do so little actual police work that you have to wonder if they really are cops. Okita Sougo: Captain of the 1st Division, a severe sadist who constantly attempts to assassinate Vice-Commander Hijikata. He has red eyes and brown hair. Hijikata Toshiro: The fearsome 'Demon Vice-Commander' who can make a crying child go silent. He is a 'mayora' who puts mayonnaise on everything. He is the only sane person in the Shinsengumi. Kondo Isao: The Commander of the Shinsengumi, a boisterous gorilla.

A prestigious family of swordsmen in Edo who have served the Shogun for generations. Curiously, everyone in this family is short. Yagyu Kyuubei: The next head of the clan and a genius swordswoman who is in love with Tae. She is female. Toujou Ayumu: A loyal servant to Kyuubei who wishes for her to live a feminine life (though his way of doing that is trying to force her into Gothic Lolita outfits).

Known as the Reaper, a member of the Tendoshu and the Tenshouin Naraku. He was once the greatest teacher, Yoshida Shouyou, but has now become the ultimate villain. He is incredibly powerful and, as far as I know, immortal. He is the original personality of Shouyou. He maintains his immortality by absorbing Altana (the energy of life).
