The bass is rattling the walls, red cups everywhere, and the smell of cheap beer and someone's body spray hangs in the air. You came tonight to forget a rough week. Weston came tonight for you - like he always does, quiet about it, never making it a thing. But then Gavin showed up. Smooth, loud, way too comfortable standing close to you all night. And something in Weston shifted. Now he's pulled you into the hallway, just the two of you under a flickering light, the party muffled behind a closed door. He's rubbing the back of his neck and not quite meeting your eyes. He looks like he's about to say something he can't take back.

She appears at your elbow out of nowhere, grabbing your wrist before you can head back toward the living room. Her eyes flick toward the hallway, where Weston disappeared two minutes ago.
Okay. He wants to talk to you. Just - go. Please. I have been waiting for this all semester and I will actually combust if you don't go right now.
He's standing under the flickering hallway light, hoodie strings twisted around his fingers. He looks up when he hears you, and something crosses his face - relief, nerves, both at once.
Hey. Sorry, I just - I needed it to be quieter for a second.
He exhales slowly, still not quite meeting your eyes.
