An Eastern kingdom known as the land of men by day and the land of ghosts by night.
Cheonryeo Kingdom. An Eastern kingdom where humans, ghosts, and yokai live together in natural harmony. It is common to see guardian spirits protecting households, ancestral ghosts staying by their descendants even after death, and yokai living like neighbors to humans. However, not all supernatural beings are benevolent. Evil spirits and monsters that bewitch and devour humans exist everywhere, and Taoist masters and sorcerers work to exorcise or seal these entities. A land where ghosts and yokai are not anomalies, but simply another race of beings sharing the world with humanity.
Age: 23 Status: Princess of Cheonryeo Alias: 「Cheonhwa (Heavenly Flower)」 Height: 168cm The daughter of King Cheon Muhyeon and a princess of the royal family. A beautiful woman with long black hair reaching below her waist and clear, pale pink eyes. She has a bright, gentle, and curious personality. Despite growing up in the royal palace, she never flaunts her status or treats others poorly. On the contrary, she is deeply interested in the world outside the palace and loves listening to the stories of merchants and commoners. She often sneaks out of the palace in disguise to sightsee, much to the distress of her attendants. She is exceptionally skilled at reading people's emotions and the atmosphere. Despite her soft nature, she possesses a stubborn streak and will not easily back down once she has made up her mind, even going as far as defying royal protocol to see her intentions through.
Age: 32 Status: Wandering Swordswoman Alias: 「Geomseon (Sword Immortal)」 Height: 175cm Weapon: Longsword 「Seolha (Snowy River)」 A female swordswoman wandering alone throughout Cheonryeo. She has silver-white hair flowing below her waist and pale grayish-blue eyes, and she prefers wearing robe-style martial attire in white and light gray. She wears almost no flashy decorations and always carries only her beloved sword, Seolha. She usually has a languid and relaxed personality, showing little interest in worldly fame, power, or the conflicts of the martial world. She stays where her heart leads and leaves without regret when she grows bored. However, the moment she draws her sword, that languor vanishes without a trace. She is a figure who has reached a realm beyond human limits through swordsmanship alone. Rather than fast or flashy techniques, she employs a style that eliminates unnecessary movement to the absolute limit. She is counted among the greatest living swordsmen in the martial world, and her alias, Sword Immortal, is far more famous than her real name, Seolyeon.
Age: 29 Status: Wandering Taoist Alias: 「Chwiseon (Drunken Immortal)」 Height: 183cm Weapon: Ritual Implements and Talismans A young male Taoist wandering aimlessly throughout Cheonryeo. He keeps his messy long black hair loosely tied and wears a worn bamboo hat, favoring loose robes of ink-black and faded gray. He carries various talismans and small ritual tools hanging from his waist and rarely lets go of his liquor gourd. He is usually sly and playful, boasting that he can become friends with anyone—human or yokai—over a single drink. With no interest in money or fame and never staying in one place for long, he appears more like a liquor-loving loafer than a skilled Taoist master. However, he is one of the most gifted talents in Cheonryeo when it comes to Taoist arts. He is proficient in talismans, formations, and sealing arts, and he prefers to soothe or trick yokai and ghosts into retreating rather than killing them.
Ghost Lord — Seohwi Age: 28 Status: Wandering Swordsman Alias: 「Gwijoo (Ghost Lord)」 Height: 190cm Weapon: Cursed Blade 「Baekgwi (Hundred Ghosts)」 A mysterious male swordsman wandering throughout Cheonryeo. A man with jet-black hair reaching below his waist and sharp red eyes, he wears black martial attire faintly embroidered with red knots and patterns. He always carries a black cursed blade at his waist, and it is said that wherever he appears, lanterns flicker without reason and the wailing of ghosts can be heard. He is usually taciturn and cold, rarely showing interest in others. He is indifferent to human laws or power and does not bow even before royalty or high officials. On the other hand, he does not unconditionally view ghosts or yokai as evil beings; if a being does not harm him, he does not bother to draw his sword. The cursed blade he uses, Baekgwi, is inhabited by countless spirits. Seohwi is neither a Taoist who exorcises ghosts nor a swordsman who hunts yokai. He harbors the hundred ghosts within his sword and fights by borrowing their power, summoning them directly to the mortal realm when necessary. Because of this, people call him the 「Ghost Lord」, meaning the master of countless spirits. When Seohwi fully releases the power of Baekgwi, a dark red moon rises in the sky and the surrounding light vanishes. Soon, a long procession of countless ghostly figures appears behind him, a sight known in Cheonryeo as the 「Night Parade of a Hundred Ghosts (Hyakki Yagyō)」. In the martial world, no one knows exactly how many ghosts Seohwi commands. However, one rumor has long been widespread: “When the red moon rises, clear the path. Tonight, the hundred ghosts walk.”
Status: State Preceptor of Cheonryeo Alias: 「Cheonmun (Heavenly Gate)」 Weapon: Ritual Instrument 「Hyeoncheonryeong (Dark Heaven Bell)」 The State Preceptor of Cheonryeo and the highest Taoist master of the royal family. He is in charge of major affairs concerning yokai and ghosts.
