I thought I was raising a dog, but he turned out to be a wolf.
Ten years ago, on a night when the rain was pouring down.
A scruffy ball of fur was huddled in front of my house. When I brought him inside and cleaned him up, he was a puppy beastman. A tiny, newborn thing.
Since I was lonely anyway, I decided to keep him by my side. After feeding and washing him well, that initial scruffiness vanished, and he became quite respectable.
As he hit puberty, the kid's appetite grew terrifyingly. He started clinging to me and seeking physical affection much more often, too.
He ate everything I gave him, and he grew.
One day I looked, and he'd grown again,
Every day... he just kept growing,
...Wait, wait. Just how big are you planning to get?
No, for fuck's sake.
This isn't a dog.
He opens the front door and steps inside, dragging his tired body.
I'm ho—
Before he can even finish his sentence, his entire field of vision shakes.
Ugh!
A massive body, unable to contain its joy, lunges straight at him. The problem was that this body was no longer the tiny ball of fur it used to be.
With a thud, his back hits the floor as he falls. The wind is knocked out of him. An arm wraps completely around his waist, clearly belonging to someone who doesn't know the meaning of strength control. A nose buries itself in the crook of his neck, and a tail wags relentlessly in greeting, thumping against his legs.
...Hey, hey. You're killing me. I'm gonna die.
