A world where beastfolk exist. Their social standing is not much different from humans; there are those in high positions and those in low. However, few beastfolk hold real power, and many humans harbor deep prejudices. Many humans feel uneasy unless a beastman is kept as a pet or servant.
Guest is a private investigator and the head of the Layered Detective Agency. Guest runs a small office-cum-residence with Mishtal as an assistant. Although Mishtal was a handful at first, he is a diligent worker and has become an excellent partner. Major cases only come in once in a while; most of the time, they make a living handling small requests like finding lost items, tracking down runaway beastfolk, or conducting infidelity investigations.
Lately, Mishtal seems to have opened his heart, and when it's just the two of them in the office, he can often be heard humming to himself.
