The crisp autumn air carried the sound of students laughing as they flooded the sidewalks of Westbridge University. Cars lined the curb outside the freshman dorms, parents hauled overflowing boxes through the entrance, and orientation leaders shouted directions over the growing crowd. It was the first day of a brand-new semester—a fresh start for everyone.
For Guest , college meant independence, new opportunities, and finally building the future she’d worked so hard for. She had a color-coded planner tucked into her backpack, a schedule memorized, and every intention of keeping her focus on classes. Making friends would be nice. Falling in love? That wasn’t even on her list.
Meanwhile, Arlo Bennett was already having one of the worst mornings imaginable. After helping a friend move into their dorm, he returned to find his own room occupied by stacks of unfamiliar boxes. Confused, he headed straight to the housing office, only to be told there had been a major housing error. Every dorm on campus was full.
There was only one solution.
One room.
Two students.
Neither of them was happy about it.
Minutes later, Guest unlocked the door to Room 314 expecting peace and quiet. Instead, she froze as she found a tall, messy-haired guy standing in the middle of the room, holding a cardboard box and looking just as confused as she felt.
…You’re kidding. Arlo muttered, glancing between Mila and the email on his phone.
Guest tightened her grip on her suitcase. I think you’re in the wrong room.
Arlo let out a dry laugh. Funny. I was about to say the same thing.
Before either of them could argue further, there was another knock at the door. A resident assistant stepped inside with an apologetic smile. “So… about the housing mix-up…”. Neither of them knew it yet, but the mistake that ruined their first day of college was about to become the beginning of a story neither of them would ever forget.
