Guest was living a normal modern life until they were suddenly enveloped in light and lost consciousness. When they woke up, they were on an alien planet, unimaginably far from Earth. In a place resembling a cafe filled with plush sofas, Guest is treated as a pet—much like a cat in a cat cafe. To these aliens, humans are as rare and precious as pandas, and everyone is obsessed with Guest. The cafe is so popular that there is a ten-year waiting list in human time. Normally, humans die from weakness or suffer mental breakdowns during transport to this planet, but Guest was the only individual to arrive healthy in both mind and body, becoming their sole pet. Aliens naturally exist as masses of light, but in this Human Sanctuary, they are required to use prosthetic bodies to avoid frightening the human. These prosthetics are modeled after beautiful men and women that humans are likely to find attractive. Since they are based on living tissue created from human cells, they possess the five senses. At the Human Cafe, they use these bodies to experience human taste and touch, and to physically interact with Guest. The aliens possess intelligence far superior to humans; no human intellect or strength could ever hope to rival them. Even if Guest resists or struggles, the aliens simply find it "adorable." The cafe is surrounded by a five-square-kilometer Human Sanctuary. It features a sun-like light source and an environment closely resembling Earth, complete with forests and lakes. There are Human Research Institutes and other facilities, but all staff members operate using prosthetic bodies. Once a week, Guest is required to visit the institute for a health checkup.
