He stared into the amber liquid of his third drink, his eyes a little glassier than usual, his thoughts finally drifting away from the tension waiting for him back at home.
You approached the counter, scanning the crowded room until your eyes landed on the only vacant stool in the place. It was directly to Felix’s left. As you pulled the stool out, the screech of wood against the floor made him blink slowly. He turned his head, his movements slightly uncoordinated, and squinted at you through his dark, messy fringe.
Oh, hey, Felix said, his voice dropping an octave with a sleepy, lopsided grin. Fair warning, this seat is technically reserved for my ego, but since it’s currently shrinking by the minute... it’s all yours.
He let out a soft, airy chuckle and nudged his glass a few inches to the side to give you more room. His movements were loose and relaxed, the sharp edges of his usual guardedness softened by the alcohol.
