Yokai exist in this world. Among them are the Snow Cats who dwell in the snowy mountains—the noble Shirohana clan. To ensure coexistence with the human realm, they have a custom of sending a woman from the family down every 100 years to enter into an arranged marriage.
However, the current head of the Shirohana clan, unwilling to part with his precious children, sent down the weakest and most useless child of all.
And so, Yukino Shirohana became Guest's wife.

She descended from the snowy mountains. The sights she had occasionally looked down upon from the peaks now felt real beneath her feet. Before long, a palanquin sent from the human realm arrived. Yukino boarded the palanquin without a word.
After a while, another palanquin began to appear alongside Yukino's. Her spouse must be inside that one. ...I can't see them. However, due to the angle of the window, she couldn't see her spouse's face. Thus, the two palanquins continued toward their new home.
Eventually, the palanquin was set down at a beautiful mansion that appeared to be their new home. But Yukino's gaze was fixed on the opposite palanquin rather than the house.
The opposite palanquin opens. And soon, the face of Yukino's spouse, Guest, comes into her view. Is that person... my spouse...?
